The show at MIT was really great.
Creeley read some poems, which were, as they often have been these last few years, focused on aging.
Then Steve Lacy and Irene Abe performed a few of his poems as "jazz art songs". I didn't even know Irene was going to be at the show (wasn't mentioned in the Globe announcement). She does the singing, and has a fantastic operatic, knock-your-sox-cap-off kind of voice.
Then Creeley read some more while Lacy (as he described it) "noodled around" behind him. That was some fine noodling.
I heard someone mention a monthly reading run in Providence by Michael Gizzi. I'll have to look into this, because I suspect if Michael Gizzi is running it, it's probably pretty good.
