Feeling insecure?

I was feeling a little insecure this morning, so I decided to explore www.ready.gov.

All of this has been thoroughly mocked by many people who are better and more committed mockers than me, but I do want to share some of my favorite bits. These are collaged from different sections on the site in no particular order.

During a nuclear incident, it is important to avoid radioactive material, if
possible.

Use available information to assess the situation. If there is a significant radiation threat, health care authorities may or may not advise you to take potassium iodide. Potassium iodide is the same stuff added to your table salt to make it iodized. It may or may not protect your thyroid gland, which is particularly vulnerable, from radioactive iodine exposure.

(I may or may not listen to the above advice)

Cannot retrieve URL: http://www.ready.gov/text/radiation.html (exit status: 0)

www.ready.gov could not be found. Please check the name, and try again.

(Uh-oh! The terrorists have taken down the radiation safety instructions!)

Software Note: I'm now using w3m in Emacs to surf, and even to submit this entry. It's working a lot better than I remember from the last time that I tried it out. Of course it's not as pretty as the new Firefox.
