Neither rain nor sleet nor snow nor paperwork [12 Dec 2005|06:42pm]

So, the 6:20 Framingham is late again. Only, this time, there is no blizzard.

There is just a lack of "paperwork".

The train can't leave until they get their "paperwork".

What the hell are they talking about? This is a daily commuter train. It is no surprise that this train is scheduled to leave at 6:20. This happens every day. What "paperwork" could they possibly be talking about?

I can't see out the window very well from here, but I'm waiting anxiously to see some poor joe sprinting with a fistful of paperwork toward the platform.

Ah, here's the announcement:

"Ladies and Gentleman, we have the paperwork!"

What do you call the stuff on the TV when there's no picture? [12 Dec 2005|11:18pm]

In English we call it "snow", or "static", or "the stuff on the TV when there's no picture."

I learned today that in Sweden, the established term is myrornas krig, which translates to "the battle of the ants."

Better, I think. (Thanks, dbrock.)
