the blues do drip (9:34) [23 Jun 2005|03:54pm]
pass two guys, matching umbrellas pass
two guys, no umbrellas matching
carts match files to boxes
matching chagrins behind
woman struggling to drive
suitcase between skyscrapers

a security guard said,
"What good is the job,
if you can't meet the girls?"
and the other had to concur

in the rain
his match goes out
from my past
a breeze
will be ordered

two guys who matched
passed neckties
with wives going out
they were buying

something I wanted to do
how blue.

Juneteenth Day [23 Jun 2005|03:58pm]

I won't forget next year.

Happy belated Juneteenth Day!

Next year I will remember, on time.

Fortunately, Congress did not forget.

I like the wording of that Resolution, "history should be regarded as a means for understanding the past and solving the challenges of the future..." Sounds like a good start.

Hm, actually looks like Congress did kind of forget. They didn't pass the resolution until two days after the holiday. Though it was introduced before then obviously. Did Bush say anything about the holiday? I didn't hear him, but I'm sometimes guilty of not paying him much attention.

On a semi-related note, check out Immortal Technique for some aggressive (understatement?) political rhymes. I don't agree with all of it --- that's for sure (for example, the anti-abortion couplet that sometimes appears front and center on his home page) --- but I'm jazzed to find some good new (to-me) hip-hop.
