Bush and world opinion [28 Oct 2004|12:19am]

No wonder the misapprehended world itself is undergoing a quiet revolution against Bush in the realm of public opinion. Among the 34,330 people in thirty-five countries polled by the Program on International Policy Attitudes, majorities in only three---Nigeria, Poland and the Philippines---favored the President's re-election. Four of five people preferred Senator John Kerry. The Administration has sought through international propaganda efforts (especially in the Middle East) to win the earth's peoples to join it in its fantasy world. But the world lives in the real world, and is unmoved.

Egg Chair [28 Oct 2004|07:22pm]

[ Photo of egg chair ]

This is a picture of my new chair. More pics here.

No, I'm not joking.

I haven't thought of a name for it yet, but I am definitely considering dressing it up and putting it out on the front porch for Halloween.

I've sat on it for a good 8 hours so far, and to date, no signs of hatching.

The aliens called, but no, they can't have their chair back.

It's called the Ergo Chair. The egg-shaped thing is made from rubber and is inflatable. You can adjust the height of the chair by letting air out or pumping air in.

It is supposed to ergonomically superior to a regular desk chair. The reasoning makes some sense. When you sit on top of an egg, your spine gets to drop down a bit, because there's a curve. When you sit in a "normal" chair, the base of your spine is compressed. Also, supposedly, sitting in this chair exercises all sorts of little muscles in your abdomen and such because you are constantly making small movements in order to maintain your balance. In regular chairs, you sit still and get fat. Anything that gets me buff while not requiring me to move is alright by me.

I didn't do a lot of research to verify these claims, but I did read the return policy very carefully. I ordered it online and had no opportunity to try it before buying it.

So far, I like it. I have had some lower back issues this year, and it is definitely true that after sitting on this thing for a few hours, my back isn't stiff at all. In my old chair, it would have been at least a bit stiff.

I'm not going to link to a particular site, because I don't want to advertise for any particular merchant, but if you search for Ergo Chair, you will find plenty of outlets. Be aware that there is a huge variance in pricing, about $60 between the highest and the lowest.

Maybe for Halloween, I will dress up as my chair.
