More from the Scientologists [21 Jun 2004|09:48pm]
[ mood | enthralled ]

I hung out at the Scientology "cavalcade" for a few minutes on the way home from work.

I have a long-standing relationship with them. When I was a teenager, I visited one of their centers in Michigan and took their free personality/stress test. I was told that I could definitely benefit from what they had to offer, and also that I definitely had the personality traits needed to make a good "auditor" (a therapist in their organization, sort of).

I went in the first place because I was an L Ron Hubbard fan, and because I was attracted to all sorts of mental training / self-help / be psychic type things when I was a teenager. I never went back to their center. I turned toward Buddhism instead, which I think was, um, healthier. Regardless, over 10 years later, they are still sending mail to my father's house for me. Let them waste their dough, I guess.

This was a rally of sorts in Boston Common (that's a big park). I guess it is sort of a traveling show that came here from New York. They had a girl group sing songs about faith for a bit. They were wearing all white. You can sort of see them in the first pic below. I'm sorry I was too afraid to get closer. Then a policeman took the stage and said some stuff I couldn't hear. I turned down several people trying to hand me flyers in the span of 5 minutes.

As I was walking away, they were introducing a city council woman. I really should have stayed to find out who that was, but I didn't. What city official would show up at an event like this?! And I sure hope the policeman was just encouraging everyone to remain orderly (this is, after all, the organization that historically has been banned from docking in several European seaports) and not actually participating in the event.

If you don't understand my negativity, you might check out (as shown me by novalis) http://www.xenu.net.

Click for some pics.
