Unmanned Found Text

From a pamphlet advertising a conference on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.

UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES --- PLATFORMS, PAYLOADS & OPPORTUNITIES ---

Opportunities?

From the hotel registration information:

(Mention "Unmanned Aerial Vehicles" for a special room rate)

In bold:

Attendance is limited to US, NATO and allied countries only.

(Al-Qaeda need not apply.)

Names of some of these vehicles:

  • Desert Hawk
  • ScanEagle
  • Raven
  • Dragon Eye
  • Pointer
  • Evolution XTS
  • Silver Fox
  • Manta
  • Coyote
  • Armed Predator
  • RQ-8B Fire Scout
  • Sentry HP
  • Neptune
  • Hunter
  • Endurance Hunter
  • Global Hawk

Coyote? That's a pretty bad name for something that's supposed to fly. The only Coyote I know that sometimes tried to fly died several times an episode.

payload opportunity is one of the better/worst euphemisms I've heard recently.

I'm afraid that if I mention Unmanned Aerial Vehicles at the next hotel I'm checking into, they'll probably arrest me rather than give me a discount. Likewise, bunker busters or dirty bombs. Language is so ambiguous.
