My coworkers and I received some epically bad news today at lunch.
Buddha's Delight is no longer offering their all-vegan lunch buffet.
At $9 a head including tax and tip and within walking distance of our office, it was a great workday lunch option. There were always several different entrees plus salad, hot and sour soup, fried "chicken" fingers, wontons, dumplings, and even a coconut milk & sticky rice dessert.
It was rivalled only by the Falafel King for the number one spot on my list of the most enjoyable ways to induce a midday food coma in downtown Boston Monday through Friday. I'm falling asleep at my desk just thinking about it.
It's still a great restaurant, perhaps Boston's best all-vegetarian option. But between the longish walk to get there and the, um, "relaxed" speed of service, it's not a good work lunch option without the buffet. It's too bad they don't deliver. I suppose calling in an order and picking it up might be an option.
It's just like the Buddha said. Birth is dukkha, aging is dukkha, sickness is dukkha, death is dukkha; union with what is displeasing is dukkha; separation from what is pleasing is dukkha; not to get what one wants is dukkha; loss of buffet is dukkha.
I have to say, I feel partly responsible for the loss of the buffet. Those of you familiar with my eating habits will understand what I mean.
