This isn't something I do very often.
Rush is running into copyright trouble with distributing his show as a "podcast" (I still can't say that word without feeling a little funny).
I heard Art Bell complain about the same thing last weekend on his show (forget if it was Saturday or Sunday).
The issue is that both those guys play music, in the form of both parodies and "bumper" music, which is the word for the songs they play during the little intermissions in the show.
They can't include that music in the recordings that they provide for download, because that would be distributing copyrighted material without permission of the artists (or rather, the labels). Playing the music on the radio (or streaming it on the Internets), and distributing it as downloadable recording, are not the same thing in the eyes of the law, as it now stands.
Nevermind that I can record and therefore "download" the streams with no trouble at all.
Both hosts are really into their music, and so this is rather sad. I hope they get in a huff about it. I really like Art Bell (though I would not want him dictating our foreign policy) already, and am kind of used to having him on my side about a lot of things. But having Rush be arguing from the same perspective as me on an issue would be novel and entertaining. Maybe even effective.
